RE5R05A solenoid valve body is the most common failure point - full replacement is recommended rather than individual solenoids due to cross-contamination. Fluid condition and metal particle content inspected. Torque converter shudder test at highway cruise. ATTESA AWD coupler is diagnosed separately - fluid replacement often resolves mild vibration; coupler replacement for confirmed mechanical failure. RE7R01A on Gen 2 models: solenoid E/F circuit is most common fault - valve body replacement addresses it.

5-speed RE5R05A rebuild: $2,600 - 3,600. 7-speed RE7R01A: $2,800 - 3,900. Remanufactured units: $3,200 - 4,600 installed. Solenoid valve body replacement alone is $850 - 1,400 if the unit is otherwise healthy.

Not recommended for extended periods. Limp mode protects the transmission but limits function. Continued driving in limp mode may cause additional wear to clutch packs operating without normal pressure control.
